François Gagnon - French Language & Culture Lecturer
François is the man behind L’Art du Français in Singapore. The concept, the method used for French lessons and the management of the classes are his joy and pride. Since François left school benches in order to make a living, he has never done anything else than to deal with the French language in all aspect and form a language can take. He had been a radio DJ for a french-speaking broadcaster, a journalist for a french-speaking newspaper, a scriptwriter for a french-speaking television production company and a marketing manager for a french-speaking chamber of commerce. Since 1999, he also translates English to French documents on a freelance basis.
Since almost ten years now, he has been sharing his own experience and knowledge, being a teacher of French to native students. For the past five years, François has been a teacher of French as a second language in Asia. Since 2008, he is a French language and culture lecturer at the Singapore Polytechnic.
Any native speaker is no language teacher. What makes the cost of a course language is not one’s interest for it , but the quality and experience of a true teacher. Many employers need to prepare and manage Corporate Language Programmes on their premises. A Corporate Language Programme can be designed in any language and at any level. Often, a company wishes to concentrate on language learning for business purposes at a higher level, but we are equally happy to arrange General language lessons for beginners and elementary learners.
In HUA JIE, we are also running lessons for small groups of employees at your premises. Often, lessons will take place at lunchtime or in the evening, when staff can “switch-off” from day-to-day concerns and concentrate on their learning.

When it comes to learning a new language, traditional large classes simply is very hard to do the job, because you will need a lot of support on pronunciation, grammar and understanding of the different culture. We believe in quality more than quantity, and our goal is to provide the most desirable French language course in Singapore.
To learn French in Hua jie, it is also available for small groups studying together.
- All participants must have the same language needs,
- Be able to study at the same time at the same place and be at the same level.
- And all participants should start to learn at the same time.
We do not recommend group classes of more than 8 students although we can run In-Company Taster French Courses with up to 12 people, especially if resources are limited; but we do advise against large groups since a typical 2-hour class will not grant each student the individual attention from their tutor that allows them to move forward rapidly and with self-assurance.
To learn French in small group:
- Small Group Classes time need to be scheduled.
- You are encouraged to find someone to start the group class with you. Or you might need to wait for a couple weeks to find another students to join your class who can fit your schedule and Chinese or French language standard.

A large part of the study material is presented in the form of practical activities and exercises through which you will learn to understand and speak French almost without noticing. In class, we may make use of videos and other audio-visual materials. Naturally you will also be set weekly homework.
